Want to wrap your brain around what it means to have 7 billion people walking the planet? These two National Geographic videos take a decent stab at the mammoth task (both < 3 minutes) and end with a plug to download the magazine’s year-long series as a free app for the iPad.

I actually tripped over these in a Wired.com photo slideshow launched to coincide with the U.N.’s campaign to raise awareness of population and resources – the 7,000,000,000 milestone theoretically hit today.

Both videos are presented in the same stylized format with animated statistics moving to an upbeat soundtrack. In truth, it is an informational graphic turned promotional ad for what is an impressive feast of NatGeo reporting. I only wish they had incorporated some photography into the videos. Seven billion people and not one human face…(except for that video skin)…
