Scope includes: UX/UI for fredhutch.org, web production/content strategy for research labs/microsites/campus divisions (includes Global Oncology, Vaccine and Infectious Disease, Solid Tumor Translational Research, among others), design/illustration/graphics to support daily stories/news updates, fundraising initiatives, marketing campaigns (ads, signage, swag, conference banner systems), events/program collateral, email/print communications, Quest magazine, TedTalk/Conference presentations and business papers/templates.

> Collaborate with Hornall Anderson on development and rollout of new logo/brand framework as well as ‘Cures Start Here’ messaging.

> Launch v1 redesign of fredhutch.org website to align with year-end fundraising and rebranding campaigns as well as to drive user engagement, public awareness of research priorities/strategic initiatives. Turned E2E v1 redesign in less than 5 months without site interruptions/issues.

> Increase surface area and discoverability of website donation-related components (including targeted display and messaging on pages with higher traffic/conversion potential).

> Increase effectiveness of email calls-to-action, open- and click through rates for 150+ emails sent in 2014

> Create storytelling/story-sharing prototype for cancer survivors and caregivers that features photo, videos and first-person narratives into a single microsite. Project goal: Build community and resources for these groups while raising awareness about clinical trials/treatments in the pipeline at Fred Hutch.

> Define Promotions roadmap and sourcing strategies for core Expedia PartnerCentral users (~60,000 hotels) via extranet and mobile channels ($95m+ opportunity).

> Utilize clickstream data, marketplace intelligence and new algorithms to increase promotion quality, competitiveness and hotelier satisfaction.

> Redesign Promotions workflow E2E, including Quick Edit inline functionality and accordion UI for easy updates.

> Launched Expedia’s first large-scale editorial project with City Destination Travel Guides in 2012. Signed vendor to $5.7m contract to create original content aligned with style guidelines (stories/photo galleries/videos) increasing SEO/conversion in top 250 global markets.

> Conceived and launched Expedia’s first B2B iPhone app, defined new homepage image editing/sourcing strategy and set new 2880px image standard.

Created/curated/designed all content with insanely small staff (2 FTE, 6 vendors) for award-winning science and technology magazine (print+online). Work included (but was not limited to): stories, reviews, expert Q&As, headlines, photography, illustration, site carousels and slideshows, research summaries, page design. Recruited top talent (authors, bloggers, Pulitzer Prize-winning writers, national columnists), wrote contracts, secured permissions. Improved site navigation, created editorial calendar, added features, promoted/incorporated user feedback, updated website, implemented MailChimp marketing and subscription campaigns, wrote Facebook posts. Improved web/print production processes. Managed freelance budgets.

Directed story presentation/visuals for all sections of paper with 30+ staff of photographers, designers and artists. Creative Director, P-I Reinvention

Part of small team chosen by publisher to lead year-long project to boldly
reimagine (and strategically reposition) struggling P-I. Consulted with Northwestern’s Media Management Center on strategies for change based on market research, demographic data and circulation trends. Created/tested numerous prototypes (tab, broadsheet), proposed new web-centric newsroom.

Graphics & Design Editor

Lead small staff in award-winning page design, informational graphics, visual reporting and illustration. Introduced GIS mapping and 3D software. Created paper’s first color and typographic style guide (branding!), implemented new archiving system, production processes, redesigns, training. Editor on commemorative photo book: ‘Mariners: A Joy Ride into the Record Books.’

Tested functionality/UX with focus groups. Managed relationships with AOL and affiliates (co-branding). Created banner ads in Flash.

JSI: Researched databases and funding recipients for President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) projects seeking best practices for reducing HIV transmission among women and children in Kenya.
