In January 2013, Expedia launched the first of 250 City Destination Travel guides — a blend of editorial and product content to drive SEO and conversion. It marks Expedia’s first large-scale content initiative.
Each destination consists of a HUB page with overview/things to do descriptions, 4-6 minute video, photo gallery and travel booking options (hotels nearby, flights, car rental), a separate Point of Interest page with map. Destinations have been localized by POS as well.
By the end of the year, the project will have generated more than 25,000 images and more than 3,000 articles 350-words each in length.
